Criminal Contempt Cases

Criminal Contempt is one of the most serious allegations that you may face, even though it sometimes feels like it is not very serious at all. The punishments for Criminal Contempt in New York can mean years on probation, or even in prison.  If you or a loved one is facing Criminal Contempt charges, choosing an attorney to defend your case is one of the most important, if not the most important decisions you will ever have to make. It is absolutely critical that you retain the services of an aggressive, highly experienced criminal defense attorney with a proven track record as soon as you possibly can.

Criminal Contempt is defined in New York Penal Law 215 and may be charged as a misdemeanor, all the way up to a class D felony.  It should also be noted that many Domestic Violence cases such as Assault and Aggravated Harassment may result in the court issuing an Order of Protection restricting contact between the person charged, and their family.  Sometimes a person is prevented from contacting their children, even when the children were not victims, and were not even present during the incident which triggers the criminal charges.  Violating the order of protection is very serious, and may result in charges of Criminal Contempt which may result in jail time.

Criminal Contempt charges may result from seemingly innocent conduct like simply saying hello to a party protected by an order of protection.  These cases are even more difficult when there are matrimonial cases pending, or when there has been a long term relationship between the parties involved.  If you are facing charges of Criminal Contempt, it is essential that you consult with a seasoned Criminal Contempt Lawyer as soon as possible.

Mayo appears almost every week on a legal panel featured on Richard French Live which is available on WRNN and Verizon Fios.  The show is taped live every Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. and airs throughout New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, including the five boroughs of New York City.
